As the Government modernizes systems and services, it has access to a larger pool of real-time data to guide decisions and policy direction to better serve the needs of citizens. Transforming data into human stories, however, is both an art and science. Our task was to work with our client to bring a human-centered approach to creating data products and dashboards to enable senior management and policy analysts to leverage data in their day-to-day work by making it accessible, comprehensible, and user-friendly.
We discovered many use cases and types of data consumers within our client’s department, none with more opportunity to drive change and impact than senior management and their team of analysts. To deliver value we needed to transform these decision makers and enablers into digital storytellers and informed data consumers.
Once we understood the needs and use case for data products and dashboards our team got to work, ideating and prototyping designs that enable users to quickly understand data. By including business and technology partners in the process, we developed solutions that are user-friendly and also viable and feasible to produce and maintain over time. We conduct usability and accessibility testing to ensure user needs were met, resulting in widespread adoption of our design framework and style guide.
